Guidelines for Submissions
Please note that Journal of Human Rights uses CrossCheck™ software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to Journal of Human Rights you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes.
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Human Rights must not have been previously published or committed to another publisher under a copyright transfer agreement, and must not be under consideration by another journal.
Submissions:
The Journal of Human Rights receives all manuscript submissions electronically via its ScholarOne Manuscripts site located at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cjhr. ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, and facilitates the review process and internal communication between authors, editors, and reviewers via a web-based platform. ScholarOne technical support can be accessed at http://scholarone.com/services/support. If you have any other requests, please contact Shareen Hertel, Editor, at JHR@uconn.edu. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source).
Length:
The text of the manuscript should be no more than 30 typed double-spaced pages or 10,000 words (in either case, inclusive of notes, references and appendices). Manuscripts over 30 pages or 10,000 words are discouraged, (as are manuscripts significantly shorter than 30 pages), except in special instances. All manuscripts must be written in English. Manuscripts submitted by authors whose major working language is not English should be copyedited prior to submission to ensure fluidity.
Presentation, Style, and References:
JHR uses parenthetical citation in the APA 7th edition style and endnotes only for purposes of essential clarification. For comprehensive instructions on preparing your paper, and for style guidelines, please see the publisher’s website.
Harvard Dataverse Requirement for Quantitative Data:
JHR requires as a condition of publication that authors employing quantitative data and regression modeling techniques in articles published in JHR also submit a replication file and description to a public data portal we have created on the JHR Data Archive at Harvard Dataverse. All replication files must be stored on the JHR Data Archive on Dataverse. Book Reviews:
JHR has moved away from publishing single-book reviews and now only publishes review essays that integrate a synthesis of at least three books on a single topic or theme.
